Care Instructions
Last updated: September 2026
Every piece we sell is handled by weavers and artisans, and most need more care than everyday clothing. Specific care for your item is shown on its product page — this is the general guidance.
Silk sarees (Banarasi, Kanjivaram, Mysore)
- Dry clean only. Do not wash at home, even by hand.
- Iron on low heat with a cotton cloth between the iron and the fabric
- Store wrapped in a cotton or muslin cloth — never plastic, which traps moisture and can yellow the silk
- Refold along different lines every few months so permanent creases do not set along the zari
- Keep away from direct sunlight, which fades natural dyes
- Never spray perfume or deodorant directly onto silk
Cotton and handloom
- First wash separately in cold water — natural dyes often bleed initially
- Mild detergent only. No bleach.
- Dry in shade; direct sun fades colour
- Iron while slightly damp for best results
Georgette, chiffon and net
- Gentle hand wash in cold water, or dry clean
- Do not wring or twist — press water out gently
- Dry flat in shade
- Iron on lowest heat, always with a cloth in between
Embroidery, zari, mirror and sequin work
- Dry clean only
- Turn inside out before ironing, and avoid the worked areas entirely
- Store flat where possible; hanging strains the embroidery over time
- Fasten hooks and eyes before storing so they do not catch other fabric
Bandhani and tie-dye
- Hand wash separately in cold salted water for the first few washes
- Never soak — colour will run
- Dry in shade
Storing for long periods
- Air the garment every 2–3 months
- Use neem leaves or dried cloves rather than naphthalene balls, which leave an odour on silk
- Never store in plastic covers
